Ayama is designed to help spread loving kindness to people and the planet through the purchases you make and the community you create with us. Part of the joy and convenience of ordering items online is when they actually arrive. However, not all e-commerce businesses are alike when it comes to creating ethically and delivering sustainably. Here at Ayama, the challenge to create beautiful products with sustainable packaging solutions is one we are rising to.

We like to build good relationships with environmentally-friendly companies so we too can benefit from sustainable business practices. Our products are made by a company that aligns with our yogic values of Ahimsa, an ethical stance we take as yogis which means respect for all living things and non-harming towards others. They are manufactured here in the UK, with a manufacturer that is close to being carbon neutral. Our candles are soy based, and use cotton wicks and natural materials. All the glass is recycled and we use recyclable plastic bottles accepted in recycle schemes. The base to our reed diffusers is a soy bean base.

Our products are vegan and our body products are Paraben and SLS free. The soap base is organic and we only sell Shampoo Bars, reducing the need for plastic packaging. Our packaging products are supplied by a certified Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody member. This means they are sustainable packaging boxes where the trees used in their production are replanted or allowed to regenerate. The FSC also work to protect wildlife and indigenous peoples who call the world’s forests their home. Our custom tape is made from environmentally friendly Kraft paper to make recycling your boxes easier and our packing peanuts are 100% biodegradable. It is not easy as a small start up to be 100% sustainable due to cost and the lack of suppliers willing to allow small order quantities, but we hope moving forward we can come up with some sustainability initiatives of our own that will reduce our footprint on this beautiful planet we call home. In the meantime, we would love to know how you re-use your glass candle holders and reed bottles.
